Graduate TA assistantship available: Center for Integrated Studies in General Sciences (CISGS)

Hiring Organization: Dept of Plant Soil and Microbial Sciences
Employment type: Part-Time
Job Location: Center for Integrated Studies in General Sciences (CISGS): ISB (Integrated Studies in Biology) lab course
Application Due Date: May 3, 2024

This is a great opportunity if you would like to have some teaching experience added to your CV before you graduate. My master's student, Ashley Wright had this TA position for several years (because I teach ISB 202 courses) but since she is graduating, this Fall I do not have a graduate student to offer it to, and I hope a PSM grad student could benefit from this assistantship.

Here's what is expected:

  • 20 hour/week commitment
  • Short lecture then leading 30 students through a lab activity (1hr50min class x 3) - this is for an in-person class
  • 90 students per semester
  • Responsible for grading, all email communication, preparing for lectures, posting course materials on D2L, and attending weekly TA meeting

The instructor in charge of the lab session will provide further guidance. I am not exactly sure about the stipend you will receive but I am happy to find it out for anyone interested.

If this sounds good to you, grad students, please send me an email as soon as possible (ideally by Friday this week - so sorry for the short notice!) with your short CV and 1-2 paragraphs on why you are interested in this position. I would also need to know that your major advisor approves of your interest in this position. (Knowing how to navigate D2L would certainly be a plus).

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Cho
