FFA/PSM open house a big success

Spring break 2024 brought dozens of potential undergrads to experience crop science up close with tours, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences.

PSM staff, students and faculty volunteered their time and effort to help high school students in the Future Farmers of America program, who visit campus every spring break for their statewide conference, explore all of this -

  • Pavani Thumbalam – Biofuels
  • Paige Beasley and Brandon Scott, Cassida lab– How do different agriculture systems affect soil health? How can we test it?
  • Mike Peters – Bodacious BEETS– how sweeet are they anyway?
  • Halima Awale – the Basics of Bean Breeding
  • Karine Prado – What's it like for plants in summer Death Valley conditions?
  • Erin Hill – Plant Diagnostics - Wondrous and Woeful Weeds
  • Linda Hanson & Lab– Plant Disease Detectives
  • James O'Sullivan, Kravchenko lab– Can we use X-ray imaging to see into soil?
