Scott Loveridge was named assistant dean for faculty affairs and development in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR). His appointment is effective June 1, 2021.

A Michigan native, Loveridge earned a bachelor’s degree in biology; and his master’s and doctoral degrees in agricultural economics at Michigan State. After completing his undergraduate degree, Loveridge served as a Peace Corp Extension Agent in Zaire.

Most recently, Loveridge, a professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics (AFRE), served as interim chair in the departments of Fisheries and Wildlife and as interim director of the School of Planning, Design and Construction, both in the CANR.

Prior to joining MSU as a faculty member, Loveridge served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota. He was then named the first division director of a campus-based unit for Extension Service, and subsequently director of the Regional Research Institute at West Virginia University.

He returned to Michigan State to accept the role of state leader for Community Development and Natural Resources and also served as associate chair and director of graduate studies for AFRE.

Loveridge spearheaded a successful effort to bring the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development to MSU and served as director for six years, which provided an excellent overview about how other 1862 land grants and 1994 land grants in the region function—their similarities and differences.

In his free time, Loveridge enjoys running, biking, cross-country skiing and kayaking.
