Upcoming ReNAPRI webinar about the effect of Ukraine war on Africa’s food systems

ReNAPRI Webinar to discuss the effects of disasters and shocks on Africa’s food systems will feature Thom Jayne and PRCI affiliated speakers

On June 28, 2022 at 3:30 Central African Time (CAT) the Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRRI) will present the webinar—  ‘Effects of Disasters and ReNAPRI Webinar on 'Effects of Disasters and Shocks on Africa’s Food Systems: A Case of the Russo-Ukrainian War'. Thom Jayne, University Foundation Professor Emeritus, will be on the panel of speakers along with a number of researchers from institutions associated with the MSU Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Policy Research, Capacity, and Impact (PRCI). ReNAPRI, a consortium partner of PRCI, will feature two presenters along with the panelists, Josef Schmidhuber from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and David LaBorde from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)

Panelists from several PRCI associated organizations will also be participating, including Andrew Agyei-Holmes, a research fellow at the Institute for Statistical, Social, and Economic Research - Ghana (ISSER), another PRCI consortium partner. Other PRCI affiliated participants are William Chadza, the executive director at MwAPATA in Malawi, and Iredele Ogunbayo, a researcher at the Innovation Lab for Policy Leadership in Agriculture and Food Security (PiLAF) in Nigeria. Zena Mpenda, deputy dean of the Department of Agricultural Food and Resource and Economics at Sokoine University of Agriculture, who recently was part of a PRCI training team for a training on gender, will be a panelist as well.

Nalishebo Meebelo, the executive director of ReNAPRI, and Antony Chapoto, the ReNAPRI Network Technical Chair and Research Director at (IAPRI) in Zambia will moderate this crucial discussion on how disasters effect the continents’ food system, using the ongoing Ukranian war as a case study.
