Background:

Edith Gondwe is a holder of MSc in agribusiness management and BSc in agribusiness management from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Malawi. Her master's research focused on the value chain analysis, with a focus on consumer preferences for fresh fish in Malawi, using econometric models to assess willingness to pay of consumers for fresh fish. Edith has been working in the fisheries sector since completing her undergraduate studies, and has since developed a passion for use of social and economic concepts to improve fish value chains.

Edith joins MSU as a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Abigail Bennett. Her research interests are related to value chains and food security especially related to small scale fisheries in Sub Saharan region. Her research will be on fish value chains, livelihoods and food security. Edith is also interested in the gender dynamics in fish value chains, to further understand how the value chains can be improved to benefit female actors.
