Phil is the BAE department Fabrication Shop Specialist. He joined BAE in 2007. As faculty in the Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering department Phil’s roles include being the Fabrication Shop Manager, building manager, and Emergency Response Team Coordinator. His current teaching responsibilities include courses AE 151 (Fabrication Technology) and AE 153 (Gas & Diesel Engine Technology).

Previous work experience includes a 20 year career as Manufacturing and Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with TRW, Eaton, Tractech, and O&S Manufacturing, companies associated with Heavy Duty Trucks, Ag Equipment, including Off-Road and mining vehicles. His main focus encompasses process development, tool design, and plant engineering and layout with a focus on machining, assembly, forging, metal forming, and welding operations and equipment. Responsibilities included implementation of new product and process launch for manufacturing steering and suspension products in addition to continuous improvement activities related to APQP, Six Sigma, Kaizen, FMEA, 5S, and 8D problem solving.

Interests include:

Fabrication processes in the areas of welding, plasma cutting, metal forming and additive manufacturing.

Biogas filtration and use in small gasoline engine generators.

Serves as Faculty Advisor for the MSU Baja Team.
