A group of people gathered for a workshop at MSU's Tollgate Farm.

Pruning is an important cultural practice used to maintain the health, safety, vigor, and appearance, of woody plants. It involves both art and science: art, in shaping plants in harmony with their growth habit to enhance their appearance, and science, in knowing how, when, where, and why, to prune for maximum benefit. During this in-person workshop, you will learn key terms and techniques to successfully prune small trees and shrubs in the home garden, you will be able to watch demonstrations of pruning techniques on trees and shrubs, and ask questions of Extension Educators.

The workshop will take place rain or shine. Be sure to dress for the weather. Parts of the workshop will require walking and standing. You may bring a folding stool or lawn chair if you need to rest during the workshop.

MSU Extension Master Gardeners may report 2 continuing education hours for this event.
