What is an acre worth? Farmers and landowners can struggle to answer this question when negotiating land rent values. What makes this question challenging is that several factors can drive rental rates higher or lower. Some of these factors may be internal, such as soil type and whether the land is irrigated or tiled. Other factors may be external, like commodity markets and land values. Each type of factor can dramatically shift the value of rented land.

To learn more about how to value Michigan farmland, join the Acre to Acre: Michigan Farmland Rental Markets webinar program on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 PM. The program will explore leasing basics, factors that drive rental rates and lease agreements, and starting points for calculating a reasonable rental rate. The webinar will also review results from USDA’s Cash Rents Survey and take a closer look at the latest county-by-county rental rates for Michigan. The program will wrap up with an overview of the new Michigan Farmland Lease Template.

The Acre to Acre: Michigan Farmland Rental Markets webinar is a free program presented by Michigan State University Extension. To participate, registration is required and will be available soon.
