Free workshop: Turn raw RGB imagery into plot-level phenotyping data using three open-source apps.
June 18, 2026 - June 19, 2026
Hi everyone,
If you work with UAS / drone imagery of crop fields, or want to start, I'm running a free, hands-on, two-day workshop showing how to turn raw RGB imagery into plot-level phenotyping data using three open-source apps. No coding required.
By the end of the two days, you'll have all three apps installed on your laptop and you'll have run them end-to-end on a sample field, ready to apply the same workflow to your own imagery.
What you'll learn:
- Delineate plot boundaries from a UAS orthomosaic (PlotBounV2)
- Count plant stands per plot using a pre-trained YOLO model (YoloStandCounting)
- Assess crop maturity from RGB color (RGB-Crop-Maturity-Analyzer)
Who it's for:
Students, faculty, and staff at the university. No coding background assumed. Please bring a laptop with admin rights to install software; a pre-install email will be sent out one week before the workshop.
When & Where:
- Day 1: Thursday, June 18, 2026, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM — Foundations: plot delineation & stand counting
- Day 2: Friday, June 19, 2026, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM — Maturity assessment & end-to-end synthesis
- Location: Room A271, Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Department
- Cost: Free for university members
- Seats: Limited — register early
Registration takes about 3 minutes. You'll get a confirmation email and the pre-install instructions one week before the workshop.
Questions? Send me an email.
P.S. Forwarding this to a colleague or student who might benefit is the most helpful thing you can do — we want a full room.
