Moss Around and Find Out: Ecology and Identification Walk
There are hundreds of moss species in Michigan! In this workshop hosted by the Michigan Conservation Stewards Program, attendees will learn the basics of moss field identification using a hand lens and the general patterns of moss ecology - such as which species grow in upland or wetland habitats, and which species are likely to be found on wood, soil, or rocks. Don’t miss this opportunity to MOSS AROUND with Dr. Jeremy Hartsock, MSU Fisheries and Wildlife and MSU Extension Center for Lakes and Streams.
This walk will take place on the Bog Trail head located near the Eddy Discovery Center. This hike is about a mile each way (2 miles total).
Cost: FREE
Registration is required and space is limited. Participants can register for either the 10 a.m. hike or the 1 p.m. hike.
Completion of the Michigan Conservation Stewards Program (CSP) is not required in order to participate in this program. This event is open to anyone interested in moss and who would like to learn more about CSP.
