Thumbs-up for Sustainability: farmers leading sustainable solutions  

Join other farm educators to visit 4 sustainable farms in Michigan's thumb region! 

This program focuses on building a well-rounded understanding of agriculture in Michigan’s Thumb region for agriculture professionals by exploring its unique growing conditions and the role farms play in supporting local communities. Participants will examine the benefits and tradeoffs of organic and regenerative production, particularly in relation to environmental sustainability, and gain insight into the challenges of marketing organic and climate-friendly products. Alongside these learning topics, the experience also emphasizes the importance of connecting and networking with farm educators and agricultural professionals to strengthen knowledge and collaboration within the agricultural community. 

    • Understand what makes the Thumb a unique growing region.
    • Evaluate whether organic production involves tradeoffs related to environmental sustainability.
    • Identify key concerns and challenges associated with marketing organic products.
    • Explain how farms in this area support and sustain the local community.
    • Engage in networking opportunities with farm educators and agricultural professionals.
