The Huron-Manistee National Forest is filling temporary positions for fire season 2025. Openings are available for GS-3 (entry level), GS-4 (6 months experience), and WG-5 (Heavy Equipment). GS pay rates can be found here SALARY TABLE 2024-RUS (opm.gov) and WG rates here Benefits, Wage, NAF (osd.mil) These temporary positions have a maximum six (6) month work schedule. The anticipated employment period for these positions is March –September 2025. The Fire and Aviation Management program includes Engine Crews, Dozers, and a Wildland Fire Module (WFM). Our firefighters respond to 60 – 150 wildfires a year locally while working closely with MI DNR and Fire Department partners. We have an active prescribed fire program and support the national fire effort, mobilizing firefighters and equipment across the country.
