The GLCC Crew Member position is considered an entry level position, or better yet a springboard to give you the experience to launch into a career in the environmental field. Experience is a bonus, but not required by any means. We look for a demonstrated interest in the environment whether that be academic, professional, or personal. The ideal Crew Leader applicant has previous field work and supervisory experience with an eagerness to teach others, lead by example, delegate responsibilities, encourage a positive group dynamic, motivate their crew, and maintain a safe work environment.
GLCC crews camp most weeks of the 12 week summer field season at or near project locations across the Upper Peninsula Monday-Friday, returning to Marquette for weekends unless otherwise stated in the job description. Tents, transportation, tools, and cooking gear are provided. Meal stipend and campsites are paid for during required camping. Housing is not provided on weekends or during local projects that don't require camping.
GLCC positions are seasonal (12.5 weeks, May 20 through August 15 (plus opportunities for a 12 week Fall Season extension) and full-time, typically working 40 hours per week Monday-Friday. Crew Members will be paid $17/hr while Crew Leaders will earn $19/hr.
