Job Overview: Horticulture Intern, Historic Estate and Event Venue

We are seeking passionate and motivated Horticulture Interns to assist with the maintenance and enhancement of our historic gardens. This internship offers hands-on experience in various aspects of horticulture, in landscape management, plant care, garden restoration and development while supporting the estate’s role as a premiere wedding and event venue. The intern will work closely with our horticulture team to ensure the grounds remain beautiful, welcoming and inspiring.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with planting, watering, weeding, and general upkeep.

· Maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees and ornamental plantings.

· Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases.

· Ensure that the equipment is well maintained, and horticulture spaces are well organized and clean.

· Help with seasonal planting and garden design projects.

· Support lawn care, mulching and composting efforts.

· Learn about historic property and landscape preservation and best practices in sustainable gardening.

· Ensure gardens and pathways are event-ready, maintaining a clean and picturesque setting.

· Support educational program development and implementation.

· Occasionally assist with event setup as it pertains to the gardens.

Qualifications

· Enrolled in or recently completed a horticulture, landscape management, turfgrass management, landscape architecture, or a related field.

· Passion for plants, gardening and landscape design.

· Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

· Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks like digging, bending and kneeling.

· Strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.

· Interest in historical preservation and sustainable gardening practices is a plus.
