Organic Landscape Gardener & Heirloom Seed Farm Assistant
Job Description:
Nature and Nurture, an organic landscape gardening, ecological restoration, and heirloom seed
farm business based near Ann Arbor, is seeking full-time and part-time team members to start
immediately and work through mid-November. There is potential for longer-term employment
depending on qualifications, performance, and workload.
We work with edible gardens, native plants, ecological landscapes, fruit trees, organic farming
systems, and environmental stewardship projects.
Starting at $20/hour, with higher pay available for candidates with significant horticultural or
plant identification experience.

Plant identification skills and horticultural experience are valued more highly than
landscape construction experience.
Role:
Work on a landscape gardening crew as a team to efficiently and effectively carry out various
gardening maintenance and installation jobs, including weeding, mulching, pruning, planting,
and related tasks.
Occasionally, help on our organic heirloom seed farm with activities such as seed production,
fruit tree care, shiitake mushroom cultivation, ecological restoration, or special sales events.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys plants, takes pride in high-quality work, and wants
to develop their horticultural skills.
Every day is different. Projects may include ornamental gardens, edible gardens, native
plantings, ecological restoration, fruit trees, organic farming, and heirloom seed production.
This is not a typical landscaping job.
Qualifications:
● Willing and able to work 8-hour days in a wide range of weather conditions through
mid-November.
● Strong preference will be given to candidates who can commit through mid-November.
● Experience identifying ornamental plants, weeds, perennials, shrubs, and trees is
strongly preferred.
● Experience with ecological landscaping, native plants, organic gardening, farming,
nursery work, or horticulture is highly valued.
● Comfortable working outdoors in heat, rain, humidity, insects, and other challenging field
conditions.
● Reliability is essential. We are looking for someone who consistently shows up on
time, communicates clearly, and follows through on commitments.
● Knowledge of or strong interest in organic gardening, native plants, landscaping,
farming, or horticulture.
● Professional, dependable, and comfortable interacting with customers.
● Strong communication skills.
● Ability to follow verbal & written instructions.
● Successful candidates can work independently, stay productive without constant
supervision, take ownership of their work, and pay close attention to detail.
● Has experience doing strenuous physical labor and is physically capable of working
outdoors throughout the season.
● Strong and in good physical condition. Able to lift and carry 50 lbs up and down stairs.
● Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
● Smartphone for communication and time tracking.
● Occasional evening and weekend availability for farm or off-site sales events.
● Ability to perform a wide array of tasks.

Responsibilities:
Perform gardening tasks efficiently.
Accurately record time and materials in the online time log throughout the day.
● Work safely and follow the safety guidelines in the Landscape Crew Team Manual.
● Arrive prepared for work with water, lunch, and appropriate work clothes; take care of
personal needs so that they do not affect work performance.
● Maintain positive relationships with all team members.
● Maintain open lines of communication with supervisors.
● Work may include organic garden maintenance, ecological landscaping, nursery work,
farm projects, fruit tree care, shiitake mushroom production, ecological restoration, and
special events.
● Work collaboratively as a team to get jobs done.
● Immediately report broken/missing tools and equipment.
● Keep track of tools on job sites; make sure all tools are put away in a designated
location.
● Ensure that all vehicles are kept clean.
● Ability to adapt to changing priorities, job needs, and weather conditions.
● Have a positive outlook.
● Occasionally, you may be asked to work on our farm.
● Attend and actively participate in team huddles.
● Conduct all work in accordance with Nature and Nurture Guiding Principles & Landscape
Crew Team Manual.
