Summer Research Assistant-Dept. of Entomology

Duration: Early May to late August 2024. Possibility of extending the position into the fall semester.
Salary: Full time, 40 hours/week, $15.00/hour.
Location: Positions available on the MSU campus (East Lansing) or at a research station in West Michigan (Fennville).
Spend your summer studying insect pests, pollinators and natural enemies on MSU’s campus and berry farms throughout Michigan! Daily tasks include insect scouting/trapping at farms and research stations, fruit assessments, pollinator observations, insect rearing, data entry, and labeling and curating insect specimens. Travel to field sites is in a university vehicle (travel time is paid). Required qualifications:
- Interest in entomology, biology, agriculture, or related fields
- Valid S. driver’s license and citizenship
- Ability to work outside
- Attention to detail and protocols
- Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
Desired skills:
- Field research and/or lab experience
- Data entry and analysis
- Insect collection and identification
- Plant identification
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people
