Undergraduate Research Assistant MSU Forest

The MSU Forest Entomology Lab is looking for undergraduate research assistants to work
during the 2025 summer field season (May to mid-August). Successful applicants may
participate in research projects focused on trapping to survey woodborers and other forest
insects, hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), spotted lanternfly (SLF), oak wilt health and other
major forest health issues. This is a great summer employment opportunity for anyone who
appreciates Michigan’s natural resources and has an interest in forestry, entomology,
invasion ecology or related topics. Duties may include monitoring forest insect traps,
evaluating tree condition or surveying vegetation in ecosystems in variety of field sites in
Lower and Upper Michigan. Other activities may include assisting with projects at the MSU
Tree Research Center, assisting with trap assembly and processing samples, along with
general lab maintenance and data entry.
This is a Full-time paid position. Previous experience is not required. Anyone enthusiastic
about the outdoors is encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a
clean driving record and should be able to work well with others and independently.
