Michigan State University Extension is launching Broiler University (Broiler U), a new educational opportunity, this fall. Broiler U is a comprehensive, science‑based training program for those who are interested in learning about broiler chicken production. Designed for beginners and small‑scale producers, the program provides practical, research‑grounded instruction to help participants confidently raise healthy, market‑ready broilers from start to finish.

The series will run every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET from September 2 through October 28, 2026. All sessions will be hosted live on Zoom, offering convenient access for learners across the region.

Broiler U will cover the full spectrum of broiler production, from housing and nutrition to health management and marketing. Each session focuses on a core component of successful flock management:

  • September 2: Housing & Production Fundamentals
  • September 16: Nutrition & Feeding Strategies
  • September 30: Sourcing Birds & Incubation
  • October 14: Health Management & Biosecurity
  • October 28: Farm Business Management & Marketing

Broiler U is intended to give participants the tools, confidence and know‑how needed to build a thriving broiler operation. “This program is designed to meet learners where they are,” said Francine Czerniawski, Ph.D., MSU Extension poultry specialist. “Whether someone is raising their first batch of birds or looking to improve their current system, Broiler U provides clear, actionable guidance rooted in science and best practices.”

Participants who complete the full program will receive a Certificate of Completion along with Broiler U swag as a thank you for their commitment to learning. To register for Broiler University, visit events.anr.msu.edu/broileru. The program fee is $40.

With interest in small‑scale poultry production continuing to grow, Broiler University offers a timely and accessible way for producers to build skills, strengthen their operations and connect with a supportive learning community.
