CANR Community Unites on Give Green Day to Fuel Student Success
Gifts from CANR alumni, faculty, staff and friends on Give Green Day raised over $44,000 during MSU’s annual day of giving.
On Tuesday, March 11, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) participated in Give Green Day, MSU’s annual day of giving. Collectively, CANR received 227 gifts and raised nearly $44,000 for various projects and programs representing the college, AgBioResearch and MSU Extension.
CANR was represented with two featured Give Green Day campaigns, both of which exceeded their project goals due to generous donor support.
CANR Whole Student Success Fund – $16,135 from 65 gifts
Donors on Give Green Day gave $16,135 to the CANR Whole Student Success Fund. Initally, the fundraising goal was set at $10,000 but that goal was increased to $15,000 thanks to the overwhelming response from CANR donors. The project benefitted from a $3,000 challenge gift from CANR Alumni Board President Cass Edwards ('94, Food Engineering) which was unlocked after the first $3,000 in donations to the project.
“The generosity of our community is inspiring, and I am thankful for all the fellow alumni, donors and friends who joined together to support our students on Give Green Day.” – CANR Alumni Board President, Cass Edwards
For exceeding our $15,000 project goal, CANR will receive a $1,000 bonus award from MSU towards the Whole Student Success Fund. These funds will be put to use supporting students facing time-sensitive needs, such as food and housing insecurity, as well as benefiting students struggling with the cost of textbooks, enhancing health and wellness resources and closing technology gaps.
“ The path to graduation is not always smooth, but gifts to the CANR Whole Student Success Fund help our students overcome emergency situations or other challenges standing in the way of their academic success. Thank you to all who helped us have such a successful Give Green Day!" – CANR Interim Dean Matt Daum, Ph.D.
4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund – $5,900 from 38 gifts
In total 41 donors gave $6,100 to Michigan 4-H on Give Green Day. Of that, $5,900 benefitted the 4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund, surpassing the $5,000 project goal. Gifts to the Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund help reduce the cost for Michigan youth to participate in a variety of 4-H learning experiences across the state and nation. With an additional $1,350 in university bonuses and matching funds, as well as gifts given to other 4-H funds, a grand total of $7,450 was raised in one day to support 4-H.
"Michigan 4-H helps young people acquire the leadership and life skills they need to become beyond ready for whatever life brings their way. We're so grateful to our Give Green Day donors who help to reduce 4-H program costs through gifts to the 4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund. Their support helps us to build a generation ready for anything!" - Jodi Schulz, state leader for Michigan 4-H
Together, gifts to these projects, as well as donations to funds from other CANR departments and units, empower the success of our current students, faculty and staff while building a stronger college for generations of Spartans to come.
Collectively, MSU raised nearly $2.1 million from over 7,000 gifts on Give Green Day. You can learn more about the impact of Give Green Day here.
