Change In Email Records Retention Policy

Beginning on April 3, 2024, all MSU Outlook items moved to your Deleted Items folder & subfolders within, will be sent automatically to the Recoverable Items folder after a rolling 30 days

What is happening?

  • Beginning on April 3, 2024, all MSU Outlook items moved to your Deleted Items folder (and any subfolders within) will be sent automatically to the Recoverable Items folder after a rolling 30 days
    • Outlook items that will be deleted include emails, calendar events, appointments, tasks, notes, and contacts
  • All items in the Recoverable Items folder will be permanently deleted after a rolling 14 days
  • As always, you may restore or move items from the Deleted Items or Recoverable Items folder at any time before they are permanently deleted (within 44 days)
  • The 30-day timer begins when an item enters the Deleted Items folder, not the day it is sent, received, or created
  • This change applies to all MSU email accounts, regardless of the application used to access your mailbox (e.g. Apple Mail)
