Construction Management’s Dong Zhao receives 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers ExCEEd Faculty Fellowship

Dong Zhao, PhD, assistant professor of construction management in the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction, was recently selected as a 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers ExCEEd Faculty Fellow and was invited to participate in the ExCEEd Teaching Workshop in June.
The American Society of Civil Engineers is the nation’s oldest engineering society with more than 150,000 members of engineers and professionals across 177 countries.
The six-day ExCEEd Teaching Workshop is intended to give educators an opportunity to improve their teaching abilities. Zhao was selected from a large pool of new faculty.
According to his ASCE ExCEEd Fellowship letter, “Your selection for this ASCE ExCEEd Faculty Fellowship is clearly a significant achievement, but with privilege comes responsibility."
The ASCE considers the workshops to be challenging but rewarding, and the hard work at the conference will result in an “enhanced understanding of teaching and learning, improved teaching skills and renewed enthusiasm for classroom teaching.”
“This is a great opportunity and honor for me to be selected for this fellowship,” Zhao said.
“The information and skills gained from this training will improve my teaching from which my students will benefit. The information exchange with other professors in the nation is also a great experience for me to learn from each other.”
Zhao earned a PhD in building construction from Virginia Tech and holds a certification of LEED Accredited Professional from the U.S. Green Building Council. He also has more than 40 refereed scholarly publications in the area of architecture, engineering and construction.
