Deb Schmucker, Osseo, was elected to a three-year term on the Michigan 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees at its August board meeting.
The Michigan 4-H Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that supports the mission and vision of Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. The foundation receives donations from individuals and organizations to support 4-H programs and opportunities that prepare young people to be Beyond Ready for future careers, lifelong success and meaningful contributions to their communities.
A Branch County 4-H alumna, Schmucker currently serves as the Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Director of Field Operations but has been a dedicated member of the MFB team for more than three decades. She joined the organization in May 1995 as the Central Regional Representative, where she recruited, trained and supported state and county volunteers in building effective county Farm Bureau committees capable of delivering programs that addressed local and organizational educational priorities. In 1999, she transitioned to the role of Program and Education Manager. As MFB’s educational and leadership initiatives expanded, including the addition of the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, she became Director of the Center for Education and Leadership in 2013. In that role, she provided oversight for leadership development, Program and Education, Young Farmer programs, the foundation, and coordination of the MFB State Annual Meeting.
Schmucker is a graduate of Michigan State University, earning a master's degree in agricultural and extension education and bachelor's degrees in agriscience education and agricultural communications. She and her husband live in Hillsdale County, where their family operates a cash crop farm. Their daughter is actively involved in 4-H programs in both Hillsdale and Branch counties.
Michigan 4-H Foundation trustees are volunteers who manage foundation policies and operations, and are community advocates for ongoing and increasing support for 4-H. They are also charged with overseeing the activities of the foundation and serve on committees to advance foundation operations.
