Drew Jepson is a student in the Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT) Landscape and Nursery Management certificate program.
Why did you choose Horticulture and this certificate program?
I owned a landscaping business in high school, and I’ve always loved the work. I started in landscape architecture but quickly transferred to horticulture because it is much more plant based and hands on. I chose the certificate program because I did not want to do four years. I want to get back into the field working as quickly as possible.
What has been the best experience in your program so far?
Going to Louisville with Student Horticulture Association for the NALP Landscapes conference and GIE + Expo. It was a fun time getting to know some of the other students in horticulture, and there was a lot of new equipment to check out. There were also a lot of learning opportunities through classes and networking events, which was really cool to be a part of.
What is the best selling point about your program that you would like others to know?
The biggest selling point for me on this program is that you get the same classes as students in the Horticulture B.S. program, but this certificate program is usually only two years and geared toward getting you into the field.
What are your future plans?
My future plans are to do an internship and then either run my own landscaping company or get a job as a landscaper.
