Michigan State University Extension will host the next P45 Third Thursdays event “Grapevine Nutrition Assessment: Using Sap Analysis for In-Season Vineyard Management” on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center in Traverse City, Michigan. The event will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either in person or online.

This educational session will focus on practical approaches to evaluating grapevine nutrient status, with an emphasis on sap analysis as a timely tool to support in-season vineyard management decisions. The program is designed for grape growers, vineyard managers, crop consultants and industry members interested in improving vine health, nutrient management and data-driven decision-making during the growing season.

The event will be hosted and moderated by Esmaeil Nasrollahiazar with Michigan State University Extension. Nasrollahiazar will welcome participants, introduce the speakers, facilitate discussion and moderate audience questions.

The program will feature a virtual presentation by Scott Wall, founder and CEO of NEW AGE Laboratories, who will discuss grapevine sap analysis, how it can be used to evaluate vine nutrient status, and how growers can interpret results to guide management decisions during the growing season.

In addition to the virtual presentation, Brian Kreiger, head of sales at NEW AGE Laboratories, will attend in person and provide a hands-on field demonstration. During this demonstration, participants will learn how to properly collect grapevine samples, prepare them for analysis and package and ship samples to the laboratory. This practical component is intended to help growers improve sample quality and avoid common mistakes that can affect laboratory results.

The session will combine technical information, grower discussion, a question-and-answer period and a field demonstration. Participants will gain a better understanding of how sap analysis can fit into a broader vineyard nutrient management program and how timely nutrient information can support management decisions during the growing season.

Growers across Michigan and neighboring states are invited to participate. The presentation portion of the event will be recorded and shared on the MSU Extension Grapes website for those unable to attend live.
