Hop management meetings available in June 2018

EmailHop growers can learn about pest and horticultural management at two meetings during June 2018.
Michigan State University Extension will be offering two educational sessions for current growers on hop management this growing season. The first meeting on June 26, 2018, will be offered online via Zoom webinar from 4-6 p.m., and the second meeting on June 28, 2018, will be offered in-person at Pure Mitten Hops in Coopersville, Michigan, from 4-6 p.m.
Teleconference Zoom meeting, June 26
The teleconference meeting on June 26 from 4-6 p.m. will focus on integrated pest management (IPM) education and horticultural practices. The IPM portion of the meeting will include a review of the major pests of hop as well as how to scout for and identify them. MSU Extension educator Rob Sirrine will focus on nutrient management and horticultural practices.
Registration is required, but the program is free. Restricted use pesticides credits will be available. Register online now. You will receive a link to the Zoom meeting after you register.
Pure Mitten Hops meeting, June 28
The Pure Mitten Hops meeting, located at 5559 Mill Road, Coopersville, MI 49404, will kick off with an introduction of the farm, followed by IPM education and discussion of horticultural practices. The IPM portion of the meeting will include a review of the major pests of hop as well as how to scout for and identify them. Sirrine will focus on nutrient management and horticultural practices. The event will wrap-up with some time to talk informally.
Growers are encouraged to bring unknown plant and insect samples for diagnosis. Please place samples in sealed bags as a courtesy to our host farms. This meeting will be held outside rain or shine, so dress accordingly and plan for inclement weather. Pure Mitten Hops is located at 5559 Mill Road, Coopersville, MI 49404.
