The Michigan 4-H Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that supports the mission and vision of Michigan State University (MSU) Extension 4-H Youth Development. The foundation receives donations from individuals and organizations to support 4-H youth development activities and to train Michigan 4-H’s adult and older teen volunteers.

A Livingston County 4-H alumnus, Hune has built a distinguished career in public service, business and community leadership—grounded in the values he first learned through 4-H. Hune currently serves as vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and president of West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula for the organization, leading operations across both regions. Prior to joining Blue Cross in 2019, Hune served in both the Michigan Senate (2011-2018) and the Michigan House of Representatives (2003-2008), where he was the youngest serving member of the legislature when he was elected in 2002 at the age of 22.

Hune and his wife, Marcia, recently relocated to Saranac where they continue to operate their exotic animal farm and remain strong supporters of Michigan 4-H and their local community. In recognition of his professional and community accomplishments, Hune was inducted into the Michigan 4-H Emerald Clover Society – Michigan 4-H’s hall of fame – in 2014.

“I give credit to 4-H for a lot of who I am today,” Hune said. “It helped instill responsibility, hard work and leadership skills in me at a young age, and I would not have changed my experience for anything.”

Michigan 4-H Foundation trustees are volunteers who manage foundation policies and operations, and are community advocates for ongoing and increasing support for 4-H. They are also charged with overseeing the activities of foundation staff members and working on committees to facilitate foundation operations.
