MSU Extension brings popular Summer Discovery Cruises back to southeast Michigan

This program previously ran for more than 25 years before coming to a halt in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Michigan Sea Grant Extension reintroduced the popular Summer Discovery Cruises to Lake St. Clair Metropark in August 2023.

Summer Discovery Cruises are an educational on-boat experience connecting participants to the Great Lakes and professionals that work to conserve them. This program previously ran for more than 25 years before coming to a halt in 2020 due to the pandemic. The program was brought back for a limited 18-cruise season in August in partnership with Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority (HCMA), Michigan State University (MSU) Extension, and Michigan Sea Grant

During each two-hour boat experience, participants had the opportunity to meet Great Lakes professionals and learn about their work, all while cruising along beautiful Lake St. Clair.

Michigan Sea Grant helps to foster economic growth and protect Michigan’s coastal, Great Lakes resources through education, research and outreach. A collaborative effort of the University of Michigan and Michigan State University and its MSU Extension, Michigan Sea Grant is part of the NOAA-National Sea Grant network of 34 university-based programs.
