MSU Extension director Quentin Tyler selected for national Extension leadership role

Michigan State University Extension Director Quentin Tyler is taking on a new national leadership role.
Tyler has been selected to serve a four-year term on the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP), representing the North Central Region.
ECOP serves as the representative leadership and governing body of the national Cooperative Extension System, which brings together Extension leaders from across the country to help set priorities, inform policy and strengthen Extension’s collective impact.
“We are fortunate that our [North Central Region] has such strong leaders in important roles,” said Gregg Hadley of Kansas State University, chair of the North Central Region.
For Tyler, the appointment builds on several years of regional and national leadership. He currently serves as ECOP’s representative to the Policy Board of Directors and previously served as chair of the North Central Region in 2023-24.
“Extension is at its best when we learn from one another and work together to respond to the changing needs of the people and communities we serve,” Tyler said. “I’m honored to represent the North Central Region and to make sure the experiences and perspectives of Michigan communities are part of those national conversations.”
Tyler’s four-year term will begin following the 2026 National Extension Directors and Administrators Meeting, held on September 15-17 of this year.
He succeeds University of Minnesota Extension Dean and Director Bev Durgan, who has represented the North Central Region on ECOP since 2014.
The appointment further cements MSU Extension’s role in helping shape the future of Cooperative Extension both in Michigan and across the country.
