Michigan’s Earned Sick Time Act, a revised sick leave law, goes into effect for all Michigan employers on February 21, 2025. A Michigan Supreme Court judgement modified the current law earlier this year to include broader provisions that impact all employers, regardless of size. Beginning on February 21, 2025, all employees must accrue sick time based on their hours worked.

Michigan State University Extension is offering a free webinar to provide information about the new law. MSU Extension Farm Business educator Corey Clark will discuss the provisions of the law, and Rich Stup of Cornell University Agricultural Workforce Development will discuss how New York farmers addressed a similar law.

Information to be discussed includes:

  • How sick leave must be accrued
  • Conditions under which employees can use sick leave
  • Provisions for requesting employee documentation
  • Notification requirements for employers
  • Penalties for noncompliance

Prior registration is required at this link. Contact Corey Clark at clarkcr@msu.edu or 517-420-2042 for more information.
