MSU Extension’s Summer Irrigation Workshop returns July 30

Join Michigan State University Extension on July 30 for hands-on demonstrations, field tours and practical irrigation management strategies to improve water use efficiency.

Michigan State University Extension invites growers, irrigation managers, crop consultants, agribusiness professionals and anyone interested in irrigation management to attend the 2026 Summer Irrigation Workshop on Thursday, July 30.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Kellogg Biological Station, 10461 N. 40th Street, Hickory Corners, MI 49060. Participants will gain practical, hands-on experience and learn from MSU Extension specialists, researchers and industry experts about tools and practices that can improve irrigation efficiency and water management.

Workshop topics include:

  • Know Your Soil: Hands-on soil texture testing (participants are encouraged to bring a soil sample)
  • Mobile Irrigation Lab Demonstration: Evaluating irrigation system uniformity, pressure, and flow rate
  • MSU-TAPS Field Tour and Industry Trade Show
  • Irrigation Scheduling Basics and Soil Moisture Sensor Demonstrations
  • Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) and Fertigation Demonstrations
  • Irrigation Safety Best Practices

In addition to educational sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to visit irrigation industry representatives during a mini trade show and participate in a roundtable discussion focused on the future of irrigation and water management in Michigan.

Credits requested: 2.5 certified crop adviser continuing education units in soil and water management and three Michigan restricted use pesticide credits.

The workshop is free to attend and lunch will be provided, but registration is required.
