-- The Forest Carbon and Climate Program Team

A Note From the Director

We’re very excited to continue to build off all the momentum we built in 2025 and look forward to some big things coming down the pipeline for 2026. Looking back at 2025, some of our biggest accomplishments include launching the Carbon Stewardship on National Forests and Grasslands professional development course that is freely available, kicking off two exciting new projects with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and American Forests to advance climate-smart forestry practices with large forest landowners, wrapped up our Building Forest Carbon Market Decision Support project which included a webinar series, a workshop series, and the development of a financial trade-off tool for carbon projects, published a technical report on climate-smart forestry in California with American Forests, published a paper on tax compatibility with improved forest management projects, published a paper on the ways to improve science-based communication for forest carbon science, policy, and management, and hit a new all-time high in webinar attendance!

2026 will bring some very exciting new projects, research, and outreach opportunities to further advance climate-smart forestry. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us at forestc@msu.edu to learn more about how to get involved.

All my best,

Chad
