MSU Extension offers a self-paced online Smart Gardening with Vegetables 101 course for individuals or groups.
Now is a great time to learn more about growing your own vegetables through the MSU Extension online self-paced Smart Gardening with Vegetables 101 course. Crafted as an introductory course for those just getting started in growing vegetables, this course covers all the basics of how to be a successful vegetable gardener. Through this course, you will learn how to select the right site, establish healthy soil and grow in raised beds or containers. You will also learn about the wide variety of vegetables you can grow, the proper care and management of vegetables, and more about beneficial insects, pollinators and pests. According to former participants, 100% of survey respondents noted that this course helped them learn how to grow their own food, something that is helpful when trying to save on grocery costs.

The course consists of over six hours of presentations, readings and additional resources that you can download or print for reference.
