Microsoft Windows 10 Approaching End of Life

Windows 10 was released in July of 2015, and In October 14, 2025 Microsoft will cease offering bug fixes and security updates for Windows 10 computers.  Not all computers will be capable of running windows 11, and users can test their personal systems with the  PC Health Check App. Many of you may’ve been contacted already by I.T. staff about upgrading to windows 11 or upgrading your computer hardware so it is compatible with windows 11. For those of you that would like to get a quote for a new computer or schedule a consultation regarding upgrading or other purpose please email  PSMIT.Support@msu.edu.

Computers in labs that run specialized equipment will be handled on a careful case by case basis, as not to disrupt research operations. Some computers in this category which are not cable of upgrading, may be eligible for an extended security agreement if the university purchases one.  Other options for computers that are unable to be upgraded to windows 11 include logical or physical air gapping or replacement of the computer hardware.  Department members are encouraged to email PSMIT.Support@msu.edu  with any questions they have.
