It’s your senior year of high school. Amidst all the fun and excitement this year will bring, take some time to consider how your past can help your future. Your 4-H career makes you eligible to pursue funding for your college education, especially if you are applying to Michigan State University. Michigan 4-H youth participants have the unique privilege of applying for numerous MSU scholarships as a result of their participation in the Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development program. Active 4-H seniors can apply for the MSU 4-H Scholarship. If awarded this scholarship, students receive $2,500 annually for four consecutive years of full-time study at MSU. Six scholarships are given annually.
Now is the time to be proactive and take advantage of this opportunity. The deadline to submit a MSU 4-H Scholarship application is Nov 1, 2015. Of course there are a few requirements, such as you must be a high school senior for 2015-16 and be enrolled in 4-H. You must apply to MSU; this should be done early in your senior year. The MSU 2016 Online Freshman Application for Admissions is now available. Prospective freshman students should submit an online application as soon as possible in their senior year of high school and by Nov. 1 for maximum scholarship consideration.
The application process may take eight to 12 weeks after all application materials are received. You must meet the standard admissions requirements and be accepted to MSU to be eligible.
MSU Freshman admission is based on:
- Your academic performance in high school.
- The strength and quality of your curriculum.
- Recent trends in your academic performance.
- Your class rank.
- Your ACT or SAT results.
- Your leadership, talents, conduct and diversity of experience. Review your 4-H experiences to respond to this question.
Your county 4-H staff member must also complete a recommendation section of your scholarship application. Ensure they have time to do this by informing them now that you are applying. It is suggested you get your application to them by mid-October.
Your 4-H career has given you the background you need to complete both the admissions and scholarship application. Your 4-H Member Record Book or 4-H portfolio can be a great tool to help you in this process. Take the initiative, capitalize on this opportunity and act NOW!
