dotCMS Upgrade Memo
Edit a Page in dotCMS
Upgrades made to dotCMS in December 2025 resulted in a few changes in the dotCMS Pages environment. Please note the following changes as you edit your web page in dotCMS.
What has changed since the December 2025 dotCMS upgrade?
- Once you select/click on a page to edit from the Pages Browser dashboard, you will land on a DRAFT view of the page instead of the PREVIEW of that page.
- The EDIT, PREVIEW, AND LIVE tabs/buttons in the previous dotCMS environment (FIGURE 1) have been replaced with new options in a dropdown menu labeled as DRAFT, PREVIEW, and PUBLISHED (FIGURE 2).
- The new DRAFT view replaces the former EDIT tab/button. The DRAFT view must be selected to make edits to your page. To make edits to a page, you must first LOCK the page to enable the editing mode by clicking on the LOCK icon button near the top right side of your page (FIGURE 3). The page does not automatically lock when you select the page like in the previous dotCMS version. With this current upgrade, you will have to manually lock the Page to enable the editing mode. If you hover your mouse over the content area of the page, instructions to “Lock the Page to start editing” will appear on the screen.
- The PREVIEW tab/button stayed the same. In this view, you can check or preview your latest edits you saved or published.
- The new PUBLISHED view replaces the former LIVE tab/button. The PUBLISHED view allows you to view a live or future page.
