Thumb area farm succession planning workshop set for August 30, 2023
Join us for a succession planning workshop at Saginaw Valley Extension and Research Center on Aug. 30. Speakers in the morning will be followed by time in the afternoon to work on your own farm’s succession plan.
Succession planning is a messy but necessary issue that farms must address to ensure the farm’s future. Join Michigan State University Extension for the 2023 Thumb Farm Succession Planning Workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 30, to learn more succession planning issues and the process as it relates to your farm.
In the morning, MSU Extension Farm Business Management Educators, Chris Bardenhagennand Corey Clark will bring their legal and financial planning expertise to this topic. Discussions will include transferring farm assets and operations through gifts, trusts, and business entities, as well as considerations in transferring management responsibilities. In the afternoon, you and your farm members will have an opportunity to work on your own succession plan with guidance from skilled facilitators.
This meeting will be held in person at Saginaw Valley Extension and Research Center in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Space will be limited due to facilitator-to-farm ratios for the afternoon discussions. If you plan to attend, please be sure to register all individuals that you plan to bring with you. The cost is $25 per person to cover lunch and materials. To register for this event, click here.
