Michigan State University Extension is hosting two free webinar opportunities to share the resources and support available to communities navigating state and federal funding opportunities related to climate and environmental projects. As an accessible way to get engaged with the Great Lakes Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (Great Lakes TCTAC), participants will have the option to choose the webinar date and time most convenient for their schedule: Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 1-4 p.m., or Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. These informational webinars will cover the same material in each and will also be recorded and made available to participants and the public; advanced registration is required and available by visiting events.anr.msu.edu/TCTACKickoff. 

With an unprecedented level of funding available at both the state and federal levels, navigating these opportunities can be overwhelming for communities, governments and organizations of all sizes—but that doesn’t mean they are alone in their efforts to successfully achieve their goals. During these webinars, MSU Extension professionals and guest speakers from partner organizations will provide an overview of services and support available through the Great Lakes TCTAC, including: 

  • Information, Tools, and Trainings 
  • Grant Identification and Navigation 
  • Project Development 
  • GIS Mapping 
  • Engineering Consultation and Analysis  
  • Budget and Evaluation Planning Support 
  • Post-Award Grant Support

As requirements and applicant criteria vary by funding opportunity, local government leaders, community-based organizations, Tribal nations, state- and regional-level governing bodies, and more should consider attending one of these informational webinars to better understand the support and resources available to help them maximize this historic investment and transform their communities for generations to come.

Great Lakes Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center 

For communities in the Great Lakes region, including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, 35 Tribal nations, as well as Michigan, the Great Lakes TCTAC connects a network of partner organizations focused on providing the region with support to access the resources they need to lead in the transition to clean energy, pollution clean-up, develop a green workforce, and so much more. This group serves as one of 16 Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers nationwide funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). 

The Great Lakes TCTAC is led by the University of Minnesota, and includes the Community Engineering Corps, Environmental Protection Network, Great Plains Institute, Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association (MTERA), and the Extension programs at Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Purdue University, the University of Illinois, and University of Wisconsin.
