Background/Research
My research focuses on the impact of dietary interventions on the immune response to infection using influenza as a model system. Our studies employ mouse models of aging, calorie restriction, nutraceuticals, and dietary food additives to understand the role of innate immunity, particularly natural killer (NK) cells, in the control and recovery from primary influenza infection. Studies are currently underway to determine the molecular mechanisms involved in the control of viral infection in the lungs by NK cells and other relevant innate immune cells.
