Ian is a Ph.D. student specializing in Development Economics in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics AFRE) at Michigan State University. His research primarily focuses on key development issues such as technology adoption, poverty, food security, and spatial analysis of the food environment, with additional interest in development and environmental issues of climate smart agriculture such as sustainable crop residue management. Prior to beginning graduate studies, Ian served as a Sustainable Agricultural Systems (SAS) Peace Corps Volunteer in a rural community located in the Comarca Ngöbe-Buglé, an indigenous region of west Panamá. He primarily worked with women’s and community agricultural groups to teach agri-business and organizational management skills, but also taught English and health-related topics in the local schools. Originally from Caldwell, Idaho, Ian enjoys various activities in his free time such as sports (tennis, soccer, cycling, mountain biking), playing the guitar, and reading.
