Yeong Shin
Research Overview:
Yeong Shin is a PhD student in Dr. Eric Patterson's lab.
Her research focuses on elucidating the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying adaptive traits in weeds. By integrating weed physiology with computational genomics, her work spans three core areas: assembling and annotating weed genomes, functionally characterizing target genes, and developing diagnostic assays to inform agronomic decision-making.
Current Projects:
-
Weed Genomics & Annotation: Annotating and re-annotating genomes across diverse weed species by coupling high-throughput computational genomics with empirical weed physiology.
-
Herbicide Resistance Diagnostics: Developing a scalable, cost-effective genotyping platform based on targeted Genotyping-by-Sequencing, focusing on in silico target-site gene annotation and automated bioinformatics pipelines for variant calling and resistance mutation screening.
