Statewide Landfill PFAS impacts on Wastewater Treatment Plant Influent and Associated Biosolids Management Challenges
Landfill leachate disposal to wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) is a key environmental protection component of modern solid waste landfill operations, as is landfill disposal of biosolids/sludge from WWPTs. This presentation summarized a recent study completed by the Michigan Waste & Recycling Association (MWRA) to assess the impact of leachate PFAS discharged from 34 licensed and operating Michigan solid waste landfills, as well as implications for WWTPs biosolids management. Additionally, the presentation summarized current and proposed leachate and biosolids treatment/disposal technologies in Michigan.
