Our Mission Statement:

  1. Optimize conventional breeding techniques for varietal selection and develop improved breeding methods for the purposes of developing superior potato varieties for the Michigan industry.
  2. Conduct genetic research to study self compatibility in diploid potato, chip-processing from storage, resistance to Colorado potato beetle and diseases such as late blight and scab.
  3. Integrate transformation and gene editing techniques into the breeding program for economically important traits.
  4. Continue to name, commercially release, and intellectually protect new potato varieties that are of value to the potato industry.
