Michigan Counties Positive for Soybean Cyst Nematode as of 2025
August 11, 2025 - Angie Tenney, JJ Bird
Soybean cyst nematode (SCN) is one of the most significant threats to soybean production in Michigan, affecting all major growing regions across the state. Its widespread presence makes regular monitoring and strategic management essential for protecting yields.
To support growers in identifying and managing SCN, the Michigan Soybean Committee (MSC) is covering the cost of sample analysis submitted to MSU Plant & Pest Diagnostics. Since SCN can only be detected through soil sampling, this initiative ensures that farmers have access to the necessary tools—without incurring additional expenses. Since 1996, the sampling program funded by the Michigan Soybean Committee (MSC) has played a vital role in tracking the spread of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) across Michigan. This long-term investment has provided valuable insights into SCN distribution, helping growers make informed management decisions.
Counties highlighted on the SCN detection map indicate at least one confirmed field with SCN presence. However, this does not mean all fields in that county are affected—individual field testing remains essential.
