Participant Expectations
It is the responsibility of the participant to supply:
- A valid email for regular communication throughout the program.
- A smart phone, tablet, or computer with reliable internet access and speakers to complete online course portion of the program.
- Transportation to and from each in-person session, and parking fees, if applicable, at designated locations.
- A Michigan State Parks Recreation Passport may be beneficial dependent on your region's schedule.
- Required program books
- Bringing Nature Home by Douglas W. Tallamy
- Kaufman Field Guide to Nature of the Midwest
- Managing Michigan's Wildlife: A landowner's guide (Available as a free PDF in the D2L classroom upon course enrollment.)
- Optional Items - A camera, hand lens, field guides, related apps on smart phones, and binoculars
- Though not required, these items will be helpful or enhance your outdoor experience walks.
Things to Know About the Program
- This program is offered to adults (18+) only.
- In-person sessions will be held rain or shine. Dress appropriately for the weather and planned activity. This may include closed toe shoes or hiking boots, long pants, hat, rain gear, etc.
- There will be a moderate amount of walking in a variety of outdoor conditions during the in-person sessions. These conditions may include steep or rough terrain at times.
