2025 LAAAB Distinguished Alumni Award
Michael J. Dul Presented with the Landscape Architecture Alumni Advisory Board's Distinguished Alumni Award
The Landscape Architecture Alumni Advisory Board (LAAAB), in association with the Landscape Architecture program in the School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) at Michigan State University presented Michael J. Dul, PLA, ASLA, with the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award.
For over 40 years, Michael J. Dul has demonstrated a passion for landscape architecture through his portfolio of completed projects. After earning his degree from MSU, Dul founded Michael J. Dul & Associates, Inc. in 1980, which is now an award-winning landscape architectural firm located in Birmingham, Michigan. As the president and founder he currently serves as design mentor and the overall manager of the firm.
His group of talented landscape architects works on many high-profile projects throughout Michigan and the United States, and his designs are noted for their careful integration with the site and environment. Creativity, understanding of natural systems, and a detailed eye for the built environment have enabled him to produce site-specific solutions. Clients include corporations, municipalities, institutions, developers and high-end residential projects.
His diversified body of projects have earned his firm individual design awards from the Construction Association of Michigan, Michigan Concrete Association, Michigan Association of Nurserymen, Metropolitan Detroit Landscape Association and the ASLA Michigan Chapter, including Outstanding Firm of the Year in 2011. In 2012, Dul received a recognition award for Significant Contributions to Michigan’s Landscape Industry from the Michigan Chapter ASLA with Landscape Contractors and Suppliers.
Over a nineteen-year period, beginning in 2004, Detroit Design magazine awarded his firm 94 awards for residential design and in 2009 its readers voted Michael J. Dul as Best Landscape Designer.
Dul’s commitment to the profession is realized through the establishment of a Legacy Endowment for the Landscape Architecture Program at Michigan State University. This endowment will facilitate strategic investments in faculty support, graduate and undergraduate support, experiential learning and program development that will impact the lives of current students to prepare the next generation of Landscape Architecture graduates for the industry.
