How did the FSHN study abroad scholarship funds you received helped enhance your experience within your major?
Because of the scholarship I received, I was able to gain an experience a lifetime. Through this study abroad, I learned about many new dishes (e.g., fish head, pickled diakon, etc.), as well as the culture and history of China. I also visited historical landmarks such as the Imperial Palace and the Great Wall, which provided insight into China's history and its influence on regional cuisines. I also learned that meals and food are ways you can show your respect for others, such as serving those around you before yourself. Beyond food, I learned about the culture and how the collective is prioritized over the individual, highlighting a cultural difference between America and China. This experience has broadened my cultural awareness and will allow me to better serve future patients as a dietitian in the future.
