The Cafecito con Pan 2025 webinar series launched with great success, marking a historic moment as the first year Michigan State University Extension and Chispa 4-H have offered this safe, welcoming and culturally-relevant space for Spanish-speaking families in Michigan. Cafecito con Pan 2025 brought together families, educators and community leaders in a warm and friendly virtual environment designed to strengthen the connection between the Spanish-speaking community and the many resources available through MSU Extension. This new initiative was created in response to the need for a place where families can learn, connect and ask questions with confidence — in their own language and through topics that directly relate to their daily lives.

2025 session topics

This inaugural Cafecito con Pan cycle included four informative and highly-interactive sessions tailored to the needs of our families.

  • Qué es MSU Extension? Qué es 4-H? / What is MSU Extension? What is 4-H?
Presenters: Patricia Monterrosa and Adriana Sierra
An introductory session to explain MSU Extension’s mission, services and how 4-H opens doors to leadership, education and youth development.
  • Cómo el Estrés Afecta Nuestra Salud Física y Mental / How Stress Affects Our Physical and Mental Health
Presenters: Georgina Guzman and Naomi Hyso
A bilingual session helping families understand how stress impacts their bodies and minds, while offering practical strategies for managing it.
  • Encontrando la Paz en Medio de la Tormenta / Finding Peace in the Middle of a Storm
    Presenter: Elisa Pérez-Arellano
A heartfelt and reflective conversation on emotional wellness, resilience and how to find peace even during challenging times.
  • Preparación Comunitaria: Recibe Alertas y Manténte Informado en Situaciones de Emergencia / Community Preparedness: Get Alerts and Stay Informed in Emergency Situations
Presenter: Nadia Vizueta, MSU Police and Public Safety
A critical session that helped families learn how to prepare for emergencies, receive alerts and stay safe and informed.

A space families have been waiting for

One of the most meaningful aspects of this series was the sense of trust, connection and belonging that formed naturally between presenters and participants. Many families shared how valuable it was to receive information in Spanish, in a safe and supportive environment. For many, this webinar became a space where they could:

  • Ask questions without fear or judgment.
  • Feel heard and represented.
  • Access practical information for their family’s well-being.
  • Connect with services and opportunities they didn’t know existed.

Cafecito con Pan 2025 reaffirms MSU Extension’s commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming spaces where culturally distinct communities can learn, connect and thrive. This is just the beginning of an initiative that will continue to grow and strengthen, serving our communities with warmth and purpose.
