MSU Extension

Opioid misuse and addiction remains one of the nation’s most significant ongoing public health crises. In fact, opioids are responsible for the majority of drug overdose deaths in the country — tens of thousands each year. MSU Extension is committed to helping combat opioid use disorder through the creation of online resources and delivery of programming such as Personal Action Toward Health (PATH), which helps people manage chronic pain conditions safely. Educators have also presented at local events to teach people what they can do in their own communities to prevent opioid misuse and increase awareness of treatment and recovery.

• As of August 2019, MSU Extension delivered 29 classes in 2019 — across six counties — with an educational emphasis on preventing opioid misuse and addiction.
• During 2018, 12 six-week PATH program series reached 115 individuals.
