Email2013 Ag Expo has many demonstrations and exhibits for the horse enthusiast.
The 2013 Michigan Ag Expo, held July 16 – 18 on the campus of Michigan State University will have a variety of offerings for the horse enthusiast. Visitors can tour the world acclaimed MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center, see demonstrations on horse hay and parasite control, and learn more about Michigan State University Extension horse programs.
Ag Expo is sure to bring you all the latest in technology in agricultural production and current research findings from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources faculty, MSU AgBioResearch scientists and Michigan State University Extension staff members.
Across the Expo grounds this year, you can meet with more than 200 exhibitors to learn about products and services that help Michigan agricultural producers continue to succeed. State of the art horse facilities, feeders, tractors and manure spreaders are all available to view and test at Ag Expo.
Enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride from the parking lot to the Expo site.
MSU Extension horse booth
While visiting the 2013 Michigan Ag Expo site you can visit the MSU Extension equine programs and Michigan Equine News, both housed under the CANR tent (north side next to food tent). The programs will help you learn more about youth and adult extension opportunities across Michigan as well as our award winning online offerings through My Horse University.
Onsite horse demonstrations
The onsite demonstrations will be held Tuesday through Thursday at the Livestock Central (Avenue D and Third Street) and include: “Horse hay production” at 11 a.m. instructed by MSU’s Taylor Fabus and “Equine parasite update” at 1 p.m. instructed by MSU Equine Veterinarian Judy Marteniuk.

Offsite horse tour
Offsite, you can take a tour of the MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center led by Tom Guthrie, MSU Extension educator and Karen Waite, MSU Extension equine specialist. MSU maintains the third longest continuing Arabian breeding herd in the United States, with several nationally successful show horses born on the premises. These horses allow for teaching and demonstration with high quality animals, regardless of student breed preference or interest. Daily tours of the MSU Horse Teaching & Research Center will allow for demonstration and interactive discussion on general horse care. Attention will also be given to pasture management and equine facility issues.
The MSU Horse Teaching & Research Center farm tours are scheduled three times daily Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., noon and 2:30 p.m. and twice on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and noon. The MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center is located at 3327 Collins Rd. Lansing, MI 48910. There will be complimentary bus transportation from the Expo site to the Horse Teaching and Research Center for all tours.
