Michigan spotted wing Drosophila report for June 30, 2015
No spotted wing Drosophila were caught in our statewide monitoring network traps this week. Reports from other trap lines are still very low to zero across the state.
This is the third weekly report of the Michigan State University Extension spotted wing Drosophila (SWD) monitoring network. No SWD were caught in any of the more than 100 traps this week. Other trap lines across the state are reporting primarily zero SWD in their traps. So far the only counties in which we have found SWD in traps prior to this week are Allegan, Berrien and Benzie.
Traps in the network are baited with Trece lures and placed near susceptible crops and wild hosts in each of the major fruit growing regions across the state. Commercial plantings include strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, tart and sweet cherries, peaches and plums. Wild hosts in the trapping network include autumn olives, black cherries, pin cherries, choke cherries, blackberries, honeysuckle, mulberries, and wild grapes.
